How to Make Lines Instead of Boxes?

I want to make a line after a paragrah.
I proceed as follows (and as WinHelp tells me to do):

1) Marking the paragraph
2) choosing FORMAT/FRAMES
3) choosing BOX (and an appropriate line)
4) then I click on the side of the paragraph
     where I want the line to appear. 
    (two triangles appear, suggesting it worked)
5) I click O.K. and I get ...

a _fully_ framed box!

What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?
