Howdy All, I have an older Epson dot matrix printer which I need to have cooperate with WordPerfect 5.0. The printer is a model RX-80, which appears to postdate the FX-80, but not the MX-80, EX, LQ, etc. Since WP 5.0 doesn't provide a driver for this model printer and since the FX-80 driver provided with WP 5.0 doesn't work very well with this RX-80 model, I figure that I have the following options: 1) Find a WP50 driver for the RX-80. I expect that this would be rare. 2) Write my own ".PRS" driver for the RX-80. Is it possible to hand generate a ".PRS" file? What is its structure? I do have the complete manual for this printer, so I could define all of the necessary control codes. 3) Have WP50 generate a disk output file with FX-80 codes in it and write a little conversion utility to account for the printer control-code differences between the FX-80 and the RX-80 models. Getting a different printer is not an option. I've listed the possibilities in the best-to-worst case scenarios. If anyone would be generous enough to help me with information regarding any of the above solutions (or an alternate one,) I'd be extremely grateful! Regards, Bob Ingraham rwingraham@ucdavis.edu

My solution was to sell the printer, and buy a new one. If you can't do that, WordPerfect's PTR program can modify the driver of the printer that works best. This could range from trivial if just a few things are different, to nearly impossible (as in my case). You could probably pay WordPerfect to generate a .PRS driver file for you, too.
