I am the county skywarn coordinator for southern illiniois and have been butting heads with some people that I have tought. So I am turning to the newsgroups. Here is what I say when I teach basic spotter training class: "spotters are smart and chasers are stupid". Chasers are stupid, there not educated at all and frankly don't give a crap about other people around them when they are chasing. Which makes there actions look stupid and mullet. Now on the other hand Spotters are educated, smart and go threw trainning about what what to do and what not to do.

This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------BA8A1465E94054FC8210AA75 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Jason, So, what you're saying is... A NWS meteorologist with years of forecasting and warning experience, and holds a college degree in meteorology, that chases...is stupid. A university or grant funded scientist with a PhD that's chasing to perform field study for tornado research....is stupid. A weather hobbyist who may be educated in some other field, but chases to witness the raw, awesome power of mother nature... is stupid. You see where I'm going here? Jason, let me be blunt. The fact that you're a SkyWARN coordinator is an absolute DISGRACE to your community and the people that you have been assigned to "protect". I feel terrible for the people that had to sit through your so-called "training", given the thickheadedness through which your post was made. I surely hope that these people seek official NWS spotter training. Granted there are always a few idiots in every field, whether degreed or not, the chasing community as a whole is certainly educated. The only qualm I have (aside from poor driving), is that some chasers don't carry necessary communication devices to report severe weather, damage, or injuries. You have offended me, and likely the entire meteorological community with your post. I can guarantee that there are a number of chasers at your local NWS office, and for your sake I hope they don't read this post. If you're going to place chasers in a bin of uneducated people, then you must be a chaser, no? I counted nearly a dozen typos and grammatical errors in your post. -Evan Jason Ellsworth wrote: > I am the county skywarn coordinator for southern illiniois and have been > butting heads with some people that I have tought. Well Evan, Might I add this for your information: This is what you posted below; I can guarantee that there are a number of chasers at your local NWS > office, and for your sake I hope they don't read this post my local NWS office well your the person that posted on my thread so far that is the second nearst NWS office away from me. Mr. Springfield, Mo. So let me ask you this question are you one of the interns or the meteorolists there in the office? You sound like an intern. I am volunteering for a NWS office near you. Yeah and did I forgot to mention that I am on with my counties Emergency Management Agency (EMA). I am a FEMA Emergency Management Institute (EMI) student. I am working towards my Degree in "Emergency Administration and Management" (I will be taken this course this fall). I hope to run my own EMA agency one day and from the looks of things here soon I should be starting EMA in my town (from the ground up). And held onto both county positions for over two years, going on 3 years this coming up November. I think I'm doing pretty for being only 24 years old. This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------6ABDD43F71299B45FE05DBD9 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Jason, >my local NWS office well your the person that posted on my thread so far >that is the second nearst NWS office away from me Huh? First of all, I am a forecaster not an intern, although I have not a single clue as to what that has to do with anything. You manage to avoid ALL the points and comments I brought up regarding your original post, only to add some additional "title" information about yourself that lacks any substance. The point is that your comments are in poor taste, of complete incorrectness, and a disgrace to meteorologists and weather hobbyists alike. I don't know which NWS office you claim to volunteer for...is that as a meteorologist or as a ham/skywarn coordinator? Whether it's Paducah, St. Louis, or Springfield IL...I will certainly do my duty to make sure that you don't run ANY EMA agency, whether here, there, or 3000 miles away. EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT. Don't you get it? The emergency managers that I know are some of the most devout, intelligent, and caring people I've ever met. They dedicate endless hours of their own time to ensure the safety and preparedness of their communities. More importantly, they are communicators and have a HUGE responsibility. Given your original post, how can you even think that a community would back you in your endeavors when you can't even support the very foundation on which the EMA was developed? Again, please use a grammar/spell checker before posting. The entire premise of your original post was on how uneducated chasers are, and yet I can't even make out half of what you're taking about. > I think I'm doing pretty for being only 24 years old. I really don't care what you look like, and you can rest assured that your age has nothing to do with anything.
