The IPSM, Iowa Political Stock Market, allows people to bet on
election results via investments in political "markets".  There
are markets for the Rep. and Dem. nominations, but they have pretty
much stabilized for now on Bush and Clinton.

The presidential market has recently added Ross Perot as a candidate.
Unfortunately, the original design of the market did not allow for the
convenient addition of a third candidate, so they have had to
introduce a new market just for Perot versus the other guys.  By
combining information from that market with the presidential market,
which is basically Bush vs. Clinton, you get the following estimates
for the percentage of the popular vote to be won by each of the three
candidates in November:

Bush:           41%
Clinton:        33%
Perot:          25%

No real surprises there; Perot is doing better than this in current
polls but the conventional wisdom is that his numbers will drop as he
is forced to take specific stands on issues.

I'll post updates periodically.

P.S. In my market activities so far I have managed to parlay a $25
investment into a grand total of $9.76.  Any advice for how to place
my remaining dollars would be appreciated. :-)
