Transparent proxying is a kind of network address translation. When gateway receives packets 
that matches specified criterias (usual example is everything that goes to port 80 :), it redirects
all that traffic to the other location (it may be other host or the same host where gateway resides)  
which handles request and send answer to the gateway. 
Gateway then does back translation of an address and returns traffic back to client.
In most cases this requires from cache server to be clever enough to understand and separate
requests from different clients (they all looks coming from one source).
As far as I know SQUID is able to work is such a mode.
Do you need more detailed explanation information?
