Subject: FW: August 15-19: International apps for Win32 in the Microsoft porting lab

Location: Redmond, Washington USA
Time: Monday August 15 - Friday August 19
Target: International engineering issues for Win32-based applications
Chicago and Daytona for Japanese, Chinese (Traditional),
Korean (Hangeul), Character Encoding, IME enabling, NLS APIs
Cost: No charge to qualified developers

In mid-August we are holding an international focus week in the porting
lab for ISVs writing applications to the Win32 API. We will be working
with applications that are targeting Windows Chicago, Windows NT Daytona,
and/or Win32s that have international technical issues for Far East
languages. This is a technical resource but it is not a substitute for
our Product Support Services -- the porting lab is for developers who
almost have an application running but need to push through remaining
technical issues. Many ISV applications from the lab have been invited
into Microsoft booths at industry trade shows and usually ship more quickly.

We provide each visiting company with one office which is secure, each
ISV has 24-hour keyed access. Most companies send two people for the
project. The advantage of doing this work at Microsoft's corporate
campus is if we run into a related issue we can't solve in the lab, we
can sometimes get a developer from the operating systems group over for
a few minutes -- this can be extremely valuable in helping to get an app
running or working out details on pre-release software. There is lunch
in the lab scheduled for August 16 and 18 which will be attended by
various people from Microsoft.

There is a 486 system in each office, developers should also bring
their own build machine so work can start with a minimum of delay.
Shipping or carrying a machine provides a fast way to move your code
around and bring the results back to your office. We also have a MIPS
machine, a DEC Alpha AXP, and a Japan NEC PC-9821 in the area.

We cannot provide translation services, the lab is for core engineering
issues (there are some good localization tools on the MSDN CD).
Space in the lab is limited, we will place highest priority for
developers who have already shipped an application on Win32 and/or OLE2.

If you believe your company is qualified to apply,
