Well, you need a way of entering the Hiragana & Katakana (syllable alphabets)
and the ideographic Kanji characters. So you need a front end processor (or
FEP) you can emulate this on a "standard US" PC but the most Japanese PC's have
special key's for the conversion (romaji (our alphabet) to kana, kana to kanji)

The biggest difference is the architecture of, e.g., the NEC PC98XX is
similar to a US PC but, e.g., some interrupts differ, the memory map, ...
do you get the "." (actually the graphic capabillities of the Japanese PC's
where higher than the graphic used by US PCs (5-10 years ago)?

Yes, there is Japanese (Korean /Chinese) Windows (at least 3.0, Japanese 3.1
I think the launched it some days (weeks) ago) My experience is that US
windows software runs on Japanese Windows and US software runs on DOS V/J.
And, so far that I recall, US windows runs on Japanese DOS, I am not sure.

I am using a US Sanyo notebook and it runs pretty fine with DOS V/J (I use
a emulator for the FEP so I can use the conversion without the special keys)

For non-Japanese DOS I use JWP (for Windows, REALLY GOOD) or NJStar / MOKE
for Japanese Textprocessing.

Cheers Steffen
