Affinity Systems Integration Services
HIGHLIGHTS
o Designed to move participants from traditional computing environments to
a three-tier client/server Affinity model
o Complete spectrum of services ranging from client/server architecture
planning through implementation and ongoing support
o Includes services designed to get organizations started with the OpenVMS
and Windows NT Affinity Program
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The comprehensive Affinity Systems Integration Services offerings are
based on the Client/Server Roadmap Methodology, a four-stage program that
delineates the application environment lifecycle. Affinity Services are
available to client organizations during the transition from a
traditional computing environment to the client/server Affinity model, a
three-tier structure that includes OpenVMS, Windows, and Windows NT
platforms.
An organization can come into the Affinity Services program at any stage
and find the services that best meet its needs. This is important since
very few organizational transitions are sequential in nature. The
Affinity model ensures that critical questions and decisions that may
have been overlooked will be identified by the methodology, no matter at
what stage the organization enters.
The four stages of the Client/Server Roadmap Methodology are
o Aligning business and information technology (IT) strategy
- Helps an IT staff develop or update its IT strategy and architecture to
support business objectives and improve business processes.
- Uses the strategy to point the way to a three-tier, open client/server
infrastructure.
o Building a client/server infrastructure
- Ensures that as business processes change or are re-engineered to meet
evolving needs, a flexible infrastructure keeps computerized business
systems current
- Provides a full spectrum of infrastructure development consulting
services based on flexible, three-tier, client/server computing,
including the BOCSI (Building an Open Client/Server Infrastructure)
services suite.
- Makes Distributed Computing Environment (DCE) pilot services available
o Integrating and migrating to the new environment
- Helps make the move to open, three-tier client/server computing that
maximizes new Windows NT technology and the reliability and performance
of OpenVMS-based environments.
- Integrates new and legacy applications and data.
- Makes Rapid Application Development (RAD) executive awareness and
planning services available
o Managing and operating the environment
- Uses new tools and operational procedures to manage and operate a
client/server infrastructure
- Demonstrates the integration of new technologies into the existing
operational environment
- Demonstrates the operating environment using automation,
standardization, and remote procedures
BENEFITS
o Affinity pilot, planning, and awareness services start organizations on
three-tier client/server computing with little investment or risk
o Proven Client/Server Roadmap Methodology reduces the time and expense
involved in planning, designing, and implementing the Affinity
client/server infrastructure
o Users continue working with existing systems integrators or consultants,
since the Affinity model embraces partnering
