PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

POLYCENTER Sequential Media Filesystem V1.2 for OpenVMS (SPD 46.40)
eliminates the commercial database prerequisite previously needed for
installing the product. The net effect is an even more cost-effective
solution for storing and managing large sequential files. In addition,
this release displays messages that tell users when they are waiting for
tape and loader hardware. If the user becomes impatient, the user can
cancel the operation by typing CTRL+Y.

This new release also allows users to manipulate tape files using the
same interface currently used to manipulate files on magnetic disk.
OpenVMS utilities, such as copy and directory, work seamlessly with this
product. Applications that use RMS sequential access or OpenVMS
high-level language sequential input-output routines can read and write
directly to files on tape without the necessity of staging these files to
disks.

POLYCENTER Sequential Media Filesystem V1.2 for OpenVMS requires the
following versions of the OpenVMS operating system: OpenVMS VAX V6.1 or
V6.2 and OpenVMS Alpha V6.2. It also requires Media and Device Management
System V2.6.

POLYCENTER Sequential Media Filesystem V1.2 for OpenVMS is compatible
with Storage Library System V2.6, POLYCENTER Archive/Backup V1.1, and
POLYCENTER Hierarchical Storage Management V1.1. Although they are not
required, all of these products can be installed on the same system,
because they are all layered upon the same media manager, Media and
Device Management System.

AVAILABILITY AND ORDERING

POLYCENTER Sequential Media Filesystem V1.2 for OpenVMS is available on
the November/December 1995 OpenVMS Layered Product CD-ROM and on
traditional TK50 and 9TK tapes. These products are available through
Digital and its business partners.
