POLYCENTER Hierarchical Storage Management V1.2 for OpenVMS software (SPD
46.38) is now available in a base license package for mixed clusters.
POLYCENTER Hierarchical Storage Management V1.2 for OpenVMS requires one
base license per cluster in order to provide its data migration services.
In the past, it was assumed that each cluster would be composed of VAX or
Alpha systems. Therefore, mixed architecture clusters weren't properly
covered. With this new version, users can choose a single license package
to support their mixed architecture clusters. In addition, multiple
terabyte configurations can now be managed.

POLYCENTER Hierarchical Storage Management V1.2 for OpenVMS is a layered
software product that automatically and transparently migrates less
frequently used files between online and near online storage. This
process helps free up online capacity for faster access to frequently
used files; allows backups to be processed faster, since less online data
must be backed up on a regular basis; and ensures that production
applications will not fail due to "disk full" or "disk quota exceeded"
exceptions. Through the use of POLYCENTER Hierarchical Storage Management
V1.2 for OpenVMS, storage administrators no longer need to manually
manage disk capacity on a daily basis.

POLYCENTER Hierarchical Storage Management V1.2 for OpenVMS is supported
on the OpenVMS V6.1 or V6.2 operating systems.

AVAILABILITY AND ORDERING

POLYCENTER Hierarchical Storage Management V1.2 for OpenVMS is available
now from Digital and its business partners.

Users are required to purchase a Hierarchical Storage Management Base
License for each cluster. The total amount of storage to be managed is
determined by the installed capacity licenses, which are available in
increments of 20 GB, 500 GB, or 999 TB (unlimited). A flat-priced
structure is implemented based upon the dollars per GB of memory.
