Fourth International Distributed Summer School on Advanced Broadband
Communications
9-12. Juli 1996
The Convergence of Engineering Cultures in Telecommunications and
Information Technology
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Distributed Summer School on Advanced Broadband Communications.
europischen Orten gleichzeitig statt.

Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK.
It will include tutorials, lectures, panels, interviews, debates and
demonstration of results achieved within ACTS R&D projects. The theme will
be :
The Convergence of Engineering Cultures in Telecommunications and
Information Technology.
Specific issues to be addressed include
* Information Technology for Telecommunications Engineers
o Networking and distributed computing techniques
o Multimedia application systems
o Structuring application program interfaces using object-oriented
techniques
* Service and Telecommunications Engineering for Information Technology
Engineers
o Telecommunications management and intelligent networks
o Mobile telecommunications and access networks
o Service engineering techniques
* Telecommunications and Information System Integration
o Construction techniques for complex systems
o Engineering the Information Superhighway
o Integrating engineering and organisational complexity
The 1996 Summer School will be a distributed event where a multimedia CSCW
(Computer Supported Co-operative Work) tele-education application will join
the lecture rooms of the different physical sites into a single virtual
lecture room such that lecturers and participants lose the sense of physical
separation and work together with full interaction.
The Summer School and the NICE project are supported by the European
Commission through the ACTS programme. The Summer School also is supported
by the G7 GIBN (Global Infrastructure for Broadband networks) initiative.
