FFT on a bitmap

hey there,

im sitting here on my 1st semester study work and cannot find how FFT (fast
fourier transformation) could work on any kind of pictures. what i got is a
two dimensional array that holds the RGB information of the picture and what
i was asked to do is to tranform this array using FFT. the FFT algorithm is
working on an array of complex values but where is the connection to my
picture array?!

if you ever worked out the problem and still got some source code
(preferably unix c++) pls post it here.

thanx in advance
