GAIA 2000 (Ergebnisse einer �ko-Delphi-Befragung/Results of an
Eco-Delphi survey study)

This "Eco-Delphi" interactive questionnaire study GAIA 2000 explores
the perspectives, risk-assessments, fears and emotional strategies of
50 subjects (from a sample of 200) chosen because of their
professional, social or political involvement with ecology and
futurology. They are drawn from the backgrounds of economics, law,
science, education, mass media, medicine, "civil society", youth and
politics. Their visions of technical and social "ecotopias" are tapped,
and a psychological measure, "denial" of perceived threats to human
existence, is developed. An ecological balance of the 20th century, a
critique of environmental politics, and a perpective forecast of
ecology in the 21st century are derived from the subjects' responses.
Recommendations for practice, tailored to the various professional
specialist groups, integrating mutual and self-criticism, are made. A
summary is attempted in the form of 12 sometimes provocative
GAIA-theses, challenging present and coming generations of planet
earth's inhabitants and guardians.
