Query: HDD warranty?

We recently had a power surge which apparently caused our server's IDE
3.2G HDD to fail. Under those circumstances does the warranty still
cover the HDD? The machine is only 6 months old and the HDD is
supposed to have 24 months warranty on it.

Is a power surge considered an "act of God" and hence render the
warranty void?

Any help in this area appreciated!

Regards
Imran
