I followed up here a little while ago - bur can't find the post. oh well...

They've been trying that periodically for at least 10 years.
It is generally considered that any government that allowed it would be
commiting political suicide.
Now would be the worst time to attempt it for Telstra.  With local call
competition just around the corner, timed local calls would be suicide for
Telstra.

I'm going Optus. How about you? ;-)

I'm glad u said that.  Many ppl forget that the people behind the desk
are not involved with the decision making of the company by and large.
