NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING

The Kimberley College Steering Committee invite all to a public meeting
to be held at...

Fitzy's Hotel Convention Centre
Bryants Road, Loganhome

on Thursday 30th October 1997 (COMING Thursday)
commencing at 7:30pm

In a recent publication, the Director General of Education, Mr Frank
Peach, stated
that all Queensland schools should adopt a model of education relevant
to their future needs.
Key points from that publication were...

- Students participate in active, hands-on approaches as independent
learners.
- Focus on higher order thinking, communication, computer and
information-processing skills
- Classroom management characterised by participative management and
shared decision making.
- Teachers facilitate learning rather than dispense knowledge.
- Ungraded classes, continuous progress and team teaching.

A model fitting this description has been in place, and displaying
highly successful outcomes
for students, for over ten years at Kimberley Park State School in
Shailer Park (Brisbane).

Our committee, in conjunction with the Kimberley Park P&C Association,
have worked since
1991 to ensure continuity of education for the children of Kimberley
Park State School into
their secondary years. Thursday's meeting is being convened to
appraise all interested parties
with the current status of our endeavours.

Representatives from Education Queensland and the Office of the Minister
for Education
have been invited to the meeting to explain to parents what measures
have been put in place
to ensure the realisation of Mr Peach's vision.

- If you are interested in non-graded education you are urged to attend.

- If you believe in freedom of choice in education you are urged to
attend.
- If you are dissatisfied with the current secondary curriculum you are
urged to attend.
