Title: Multifaceted Grammars
Date: Tuesday, 12th October 1999
Time: 12pm
Place: Lecture Theatre S303, Faculty of Information Technology,
Queensland University of Technology
Abstract:
---------
Multifaceted Grammars allow the static semantics of a programming language
to be defined in a structured manner. The multifaceted perspective views a
language as comprising a number of logically separate facets (or concerns),
each of which may be defined by a basically context-free grammar. The goal
of this separation is to facilitate comprehension as well as re-use of language
definitions.
This seminar will introduce Multifaceted Grammars using an example of a
simple, typed programming language. The experience of applying Multifaceted
Grammars to the definition of the static semantics of Modula-2 will then be
described.
