Every TWO minutes of EVERY day in Queensland bulldozers destroy an
area of woodland or forest the size of the Gabba football ground.
More than 4,000 square kilometers of country are cleared each year in
this way. This destruction is a national and international tragedy.
Queensland alone clears more land than any other developed nation in
the world.

Land clearing causes salty ground water to rise ruining farmland and
poisoning our streams and water supplies. And the loss of wildlife is
catastrophic. Several million birds are killed and countless other
native animals such as koalas, bandicoots and gliding possums die
after losing their homes to the dozers. Regional extinctions are now
occurring due to the clearing.

The Beattie and Howard Governments have turned this critically
important issue into a political football. Neither Government is
dealing with this issue, even though they both have access to funds
that would make land clearing regulations effective. Meanwhile the
bush is being leveled at a frightening pace. In the past three years,
land clearing in Queensland has increased by 25 per cent a year. If
you dont agree with these Government priorities, come and hear more
about this vital issue and how you can help. Hear prominent
scientists, environmental campaigners and landowners discuss what
needs to be done and how the Beattie Government can be got back on
track with much needed environmental reform.
