I have a very simple app which allows viewing of ADO tables and running of queries. It uses TADOConnection and TADOQuery components and whenever a select query is run, I get lots of page faults, particularly if the query is run over and over again. An update query generates significantly less page faults. e.g. a simple select * query into an Access Database with 6 records in a single table generates about 250 page faults if the query run once. If repeatedly run it generates over a thousand. With the Borland Database Explorer using ODBC there are about 15-20 page faults per select query. The reason I tested this is that I have a service which polls a database every 5 seconds and noticed that page faults were getting into the millions after a few hours. The page faults are 'soft', that is the data is not in the Working Set but still in memory, not paged to disk. I have tried increasing the Working Set size but it makes no difference.
