Hi,
I have BC++ Builder 4.0 (Standard Edition).  I am writing my first
database app and discovered that the Standard Edition does not come with
the BDE or any of the db controls associated with it.

How can I write a (fairly simple) db app?  I tried installing the
Microsoft ActiveX db components with mixed success.  One control was
imported OK, but then didn't actually work...(what do you put in the
ConnectionString box?)  Several other of the components (TDataList,
TDataCombo) failed to import correctly.  When Builder 4.0 tried to
compile the ActiveX objects into a package it came back with an error
saying it could not open "dbolectl.hpp".  My guess is that this include
file comes with the other database components which are missing from the
standard edition?

What can I do?  Should the Microsoft stuff work?  Any suggestions
welcome, short of upgrading to the professional edition!
