Just because it is working for a different database does not mean that the problem isn't in your code and/or configuration. I use C++Builder to work with MS-Access97 MDB files fairly regularly and do not have the problems you were describing. Also, you mention Access97 in the subject but Access2000 in the body, which one are you trying to use? If you are trying to use Access2000 with anything other than ODBC or ADO, you are attempting to use something which is unsupported. Thanks to MS, the only way to connect to Acces2000 MDB files when C++Builder v5 was released were ODBC and ADO, and there were known problems with ODBC at that time... The error may well be caused by a bad BDE configuration for your Alias and/or driver. This could explain the problem occurring before your winmain() function, as it would then be happening during the BDE initialization. I just wrote a couple of quick test applications this afternoon using (one using ODBC and the other using ADO) to connect to an Access2000 MDB file, and they both worked perfectly, with no errors or exceptions, so I strongly suspect that "Jirzi" is giving you a good lead to work with...
