No way, it should run properly.

Did you set parameters output properly ?
Check in Parameters Property Editor and invoke parameter editor,
set the formal and actual parameter as output.

Or Check your SQL statement after retrieving value, there two method to
returning
value from MSSQL Server , first with SELECT @parOutput = value
or you can using Set @parOutput = value
