ADO APPLICATION AND MACHINE RESOURCE USAGE

#6046

I hope someone can give me some help here.

I have written an application which is basically five forms and one data
module containing about 12 to 14 datasets using one ADO connection. The main
form of my program uses splitter panels so that a lot of information can be
seen in one form by simply having the user size the panels to reveal various
information panels.

The RDBMS is SQL Server 7.

The problem is that on a Pentium III machine with 128Mb RAM running Windows
98 the program takes up about 20% of system resources which strikes me as
being a large memory footprint for what is really a very simple client
application.

Can anyone give me some pointers as to where I might conserve resources?
Should I use less datasets per connection? should I use more data modules
with less datasets etc?

Incidentally, other than the main form which is an auto-create form, I have
tried to dynamically create the other forms at run time but this seems to
make very little difference to the overall footprint.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Ian
