Sorry, my question wasn't very clear.  What's the type of the field as
defined on the server (for instance CHAR(20) or VARCHAR(10), etc)?

There are issues with empty string parameters in ADO, but I don't recall
exactly what they are right off the top of my head.   I need to create a
test case that fails and figure out what is going wrong.
