Extracting XML record via ADO
#236

Hi.

I am trying to extract the results of a stored procedure on SQLServer2000
which returns XML via "FOR XML EXPLICIT". I am using BCB5 with MDAC 2.8. I
have tried two approaches, neither of which work, and I can't find anything in
this group's archive that works either, nor elsewhere on the Web or in my
books.

Running the SPROC from QueryAnalyser produces the correct results, as does
extracting it via ADO in an ASP page, so I'm certain this is a BCB issue
rather than a generic ADO issue.

First, I can exec the SPROC and it returns a recordset. I can access the BLOBs
in the record set and extract them via a blobstream, but they appear to
contain data that is UNICODE (ish) and NOT in XML format. It's almost as if it
is data in a binary format with the correct text interspersed. Not a hint of
an XML element to be seen though.

The second approach was to set the "Output Stream" property of an ADOCommand
object as you would in VB or ASP, but I can't seem to find a way to do that.
Every method I try results in an exception and there doesn't appear to be any
documentation on _di_Properties or _di_Property_ anywhere that I can find.

Can anyone help on this?

Thanks very much.

Kind ergards

Gordon
