Oracle 8 - BCB3.0 - Nulls - Key Violation

Hello.
I have had many problems with Cbuilder 3 running against Oracle 8.0
and it seems to center around NULL fields.

  Symptom 1.
I will run a query and the records will display, but I will notice a few
fields (I'm using DBText controls) are blank. If I try to make changes
and save a record, I get "cannot perform edit because another user has
changed the record", even though no one else is even logged in!!! If I
go through the record (using Oracle's SQL tool), and make sure no fields
are NULL, then the query and the update works fine. What gives? The
fields do not have non-NULL constraints. Note: some of the fields that
are not displayed are NOT null to begin with.

  Symptom 2.
I run a query and I get the error "Key violation: invalid data type". I
cannot find anything to pinpoint this error. I have tried query ranges
that overlap, I have tried ODBC SQL Trace. But nothing will indicate
what field has an invalid data in it, and the query returns nothing.
kinda odd behavior, it should return what data it finds and a null or
invalid code for what it can't resolve. Any clues as to what I can look
for?
