Need TUpdateSQL expertise

Help! I'm floundering. I can't get my TQuery component to recognize my
TUpdateSQL component when updating. I have a 3-tier application set up in
which the remote databroker on the app server has a Tquery, some TTables, a
TupdateSQL, and a TDatabase. My TQuery queries data from a non-updateable
view, therefore, I want to use a TUpdateSQL component to do the updating to
the relevant table and fields. Despite setting the TQuery->UpdateObject to
the TUpdateSQL, the automatically generated update code is insead executed
against the read-only view, and the TupdateSQL SQL stmts never get run.
I've also tried calling it through the TQuery->OnUpdateRecord() event, but
that event is never fired either. Cached updates is set to true, the
database's SQLPASSTHRU MODE is set to NOT SHARED (I tried SHARED AUTOCOMMIT
too), and I apply my updates on the client using
clientdataset->ApplyUpdates(-1). I've searched through newsgroups galore
to see what I'm missing, but I can't find the problem. Everything I've
found says setting the UpdateObject to the TUpdateSQL object is all you need
to do to get it to be used when doing an update to the dataset. Does
anybody have any other suggestions?

TTIA,
Don
