Switching from paradox to a multitier database

I'm new to database programming, and just when I thought my application was
coming together, and I was almost finished, I realize that the database I'm
using will only work on one machine. <sigh> I'm using paradox 7 right now,
and I need a database that can be accessed on an intranet by several
different machines. I don't really want to use SQL, either, unless I
absolutely have to. Can anyone help me, or point me in the right direction?
Please? =)
