Interesting question. To my recollection, BC will use the BDE, just like Delphi and C++B. Honestly, I'd say you might even be better off simply writing an external function that is callable from within the PL-SQL of Oracle and whatever Sybase does for externals, and have that write your database for you, rather than generate a complete application. However, if you're going to build a full executable for some user interaction, that idea becomes somewhat pointless. On the thought of a complete app, my default would be to build it in Delphi, but that's simply because I'm better with that than any C-based language. If you're unfamiliar with all the languages you mentioned, go with Delphi simply for the softer learning curve. Speed is comparable between Delphi / BC / C++B; I can't speak for Visual C++ currently, but it wasn't terribly visual last time I took a look at it (v4). Avoid Oracle- or Sybase-specific tools. Chances are they will be difficult to manage when it comes to creating your exported database if it isn't an Oracle or Sybase system. That and their computation speed will (in all likelihood - consider this hearsay) suck. Generally, I'd probably just build it in Delphi, turn it on, and expect it to work smoothly, cleanly, and quickly. C++ Builder will be a similar result, if you're more familiar with C++ than Pascal. BC++ and VC++ will require direct coding to the BDE or ODBC APIs, which seems to me too much work (seeing as the wheel is already made, ride it).
