If those are your only choices, go with Delphi. 1) The language is simpler. 2) Most 3rd-party components are written in Delphi, and are easier to integrate with Delphi than with BCB. Most include detailed instructions for installation with Delphi, but if you are a BCB user, you are on your own. 3) The Delphi compiler is over an order of magnitude faster. The first time I built a project in Delphi, I did it twice because I thought it didn't build the first time. What actually happened was that I blinked, and missed it the first time. In a large project, that could make a substantial difference in productivity. 4) Delphi gets all the neat new features one iteration before the corresponding release of BCB, since Delphi 'belongs' to Borland, and C++ is the 'red-haired stepchild' that they have to support even though they would rather not (and it shows). 5) The BCB help files are full of 'transliterated' Delphi examples that don't actually work with BCB, so you have to be fairly familiar with Delphi anyway. That's putting it kindly, though: The BCB 'help' files suck bigtime, and have not been updated in over a year. If those aren't your only choices, then you might want to consider Java and some other database beside SQL Server, and perhaps even avoid using either Microsoft or Borland products altogether. I'm currently looking into doing a MySQL/Java/Linux application, and that looks like a pretty good combination. It's all open-source (well, Java isn't actuall open-source, but it's at least free and well-documented), which means that in the long-term, you aren't at the mercy of any one vendor for updates, bugfixes, and documentation updates. My other choice would be to use a standand C++ compiler instead of Java, which would have better performance, but would be a little less convenient to use.
