Oops - should've mentioned that this works for TListView as well -
that's why it's a template. We just call it from the OnOwnerDraw event
handler:

void __fastcall TFrmSearchResults
  ::lbxWordListDrawItem( TWinControl *Control, 
                         int Index, 
                         TRect &Rect, 
                         TOwnerDrawState State )
{
  TListBox * lbx=dynamic_cast<TListBox *>( Control );
