The SSL IOHandler is known to cause such exceptions unexpectedly. > I read an article about this exception where it says that this is > an error when it happens in the client side. That depends on the reason why it is being thrown. In this case, it is more likely a false negative, and the connection was not really closed. > I could send IdSMTP1->Disconnect(false) If you do that, your messages will never be delivered. Setting the ANotifyPeer parameter to false will prevent the QUIT command from being sent to the server. That command is required in order to deliver the messages. SMTP is a transactional protocol. When you send a message, the server does not deliver the message to the recipient(s) right away. It is put into a queue until the transaction is concluded. If the connection is closed without receiving the QUIT command, the transaction is aborted and any queued messages are discarded. This is clearly explained in RFC 821. Gambit
