You might be able to have your connect function spawn a new thread to
pump messages (create a hidden window to receive messages). The
disconnect function could then send a private message for the thread
to terminate (WM_CLOSE the hidden window).

Or set it up to work in blocking mode.

Or maybe you don't have vcl and bpl dlls available for the console?
