TWinSocketStream Read in BYTE buffer

Hello,

I have a BYTE buffer and Stream defined as:

BYTE rbuf[256];
TWinSocketStream* str = new TWinSocketStream(ClientSocket, 5000);

Once the data is read from str into the buffer, how do I go about using the
buffer? I am not familiar with the BYTE type except to know that it's a 8
bit unsigned integer. So lets say I send a file over, how would I 'convert'
the file back to it's original format and save it to say the C drive. Or
lets say I sent a simple text message over as "Hello World". How do I
recover the messages from rbuf?

Thanks
