We would like to know then if the other computers have clients running. In that case your laptop had the server. If the connection got lost then the server application could do nothing but waiting for a client to connect again. Then the client decides what happens then. If your laptop has a client program that connects to servers on other computers then you could program that client in such a way that it would reconnect and resend. But it is all the protocol you are going to make. Would you implement resuming download at the same position? > We also want to receive some other binary data packets from M number of > other computers. Both N and M would vary depending on various circumstances. > > What would you advise for such a system? Nothing special. You need clients that reconnect at errors. And your protocol should state how errors are handled. And allow partial downloads. Hans.
