Gambit,

After rearranging and rewriting some code, the "non-looped" 
version of code is working.  The old OnExecute consisted of 3 parts; 1. Initialization code for application level objects, 2. loop for servicing the socket connection and 3. the cleanup code.  The new scheme has the initialization code in OnConnect, the socket connection servicing code in OnExecute and the cleanup code in OnDisconnect.  This conversion was far less painful that first envisioned.  Your explanations clarified the details!  Many, many thanks.
