You mean: xx.xx.xx.xx is the internet-IP (or WAN-IP) and
192.168.0.1 is the router's LAN-IP ?

Ok. Until sofar you used only one computer (in the LAN) and
server and client were on the same machine. You did not use
the router here. In my opinion you can combine 2. and 3.:

   start SMTP-Client with IdSMTP->Host to "localhost" or "192.168.0.101"

I would now try the following configuration first where
you use your notebook and pc in the LAN and server and client
on diffrent machines.

    start SMTP-Server on 192.168.0.101 Port 25
    start SMTP-Client (resides on 192.168.0.100)
    set IdSMTP->Host to "192.168.0.101" port 25

If that works then take your notebook (with your client) to the
outside world and use dial-up. Is that correct ?

    start SMTP-Server on 192.168.0.101 Port 25
    start SMTP-Client (resides on laptop)
    set IdSMTP->Host to "xx.xx.xx.xx" port 25

Well did you configure your router to forward port 25 to
192.168.0.101 Port 25;

Hans.
