It certainly does help when someone keeps me from banging my head against a wall :-) I'm new to doing anything with POP3 (or any mail protocols) and I appreciate your being kind. You can see my example of working code in my reply to Gambit. I decided to use the date and time of arrival of the message as my check for whether a message is new or not. It's just a simple background program to scan all my e-mail accounts to warn me when new mail arrives and it's for my own use so I'm not too worried about fancy stuff - although I may add a feature to be able to enter specific e-mail addresses to trigger a special alert. I guess we never stop tinkering with our code do we? Thanks again, Jim Dodd Onset Computer Corp.
