Can anyone guide me in how to resolve this error?
the includes are...

#include <iostream.h>
#include <winsock2.h>
#include <ws2tcpip.h>

It is a sample program form

I have not the knowledge to understand how the obj is built so I am
stuck wondering.

When I look through getifaces.obj  sure enough WSASocketA is in there

You likely do not have ws2_32.lib added to the project.
