hello,

everyone knows skype. skype is a program allows calling. in its
option/connection section there is a message:
"use port 2537 for incoming connections, use port 80 and 443 as
alternative."

You know what the port forwarding is. I didn't fwd 2537 port. I think it
works with 80 and 443.

I have a chess program uses 1980 as a port number. Everyone have to fwd this
port in order to allow connections.
That's my question:

If I change the port of my program to 80, is port forwarding not required
anymore?

- to gambit: you can download my program at www.chesspeer.com and look to
the about section. there is a nice surprise for you ;)

Just like with any other port, if you don't forward it in the router, then
outside clients will not be able to reach it.

Those have to be forwarded as well.

As they should be. That is how routers are designed to work.

Yes, it is still required for all INBOUND ports that you need to use in your
application.
