Need help with TidIrc

Hi,

I'm trying to make an irc client with TidIRC vcl from Indy which seem to be
really practical for my use. But unfortunatly i'm not able to make the
socket connect. Everytime i do the connect command i get and error 10060
Timeout. Did I miss something ? I'm using C++ Builder 2007 with Indy 10 on
Windows Vista Ultimate. My firewall is turned off and unchecked. Any help
would be appreciated. I`ve configured my Host, nickname, port, Realname.

thanks.

That is an OS-level error. Are you sure you are specifying the correct Host
and Port?

> My firewall is turned off and unchecked.

Are you behind a router, by chance?

Now i have problem with the raw method. It doesn't seem to be sending text
to the server. Example :

I logon to a server... i get response tat my ident is broken and to enter
/QUOTE PASS 12345
If i do a raw response like "/QUOTE PASS 12345" without quotes nothing
happens. The Indy library is unfortunatly not well documented more help
would be appreciated. I see to be missing something.

Thank you.

Have you used a packet sniffer to verify that?

That is not the correct thing to do. You need to drop the '/QUOTE' portion
when calling Raw(), ie:

    Raw('PASS 12345');

'/QUOTE' only applies when users are manually typing commands into an IRC
application. You do not transmit the actual '/QUOTE', itself.

You Component is incredible. It's simple and well done but i'm missing
something. Maybe it's the IRC Protocol i dont understand but Is there a way
to get the sender of a PRIVMSG with it ?

thank you.

No, you don't. TIdIRC should be grabbing everything for you.

The OnPrivateMessage event has an ANicknameFrom parameter for that.

Not at the EXACT same time, no. OnRaw exits before OnPrivateMessage is
entered.

What exactly are you having a problem with? Please be more specific. OnRaw
has no effect on what OnPrivateMessage (or any other event) receives.

I dont know why but it doesnt seem to be working for OnPrivateMessage. The
event seem's to never happen with those 2 possibilities: When i receive a
message from the channel or a private message from a user. is there a bug
with the version of CodeRad c++ boland Builder 2007 ?

Well i'm making a IRC client. I connect to the server. After then i join a
channel. then i send a message with MIRC example to the channel and see what
is recevied by my client. So this should trigger an OnPrivateMessage event
which should output the content of AMessage into a Memo object. But i`ve
added break points to the OnPrivateMessage event and they never occures.
Meaning that the OnPrivateMessage never happens. Even when my client
receives data. I see this because when i use OnRaw and output the text it
shows ok in the memo. Maybe compiling a recent version of Indy would help ?
Or do I misuse Indy ?

Then TIdIRC is not receiving a PRIVMSG command to begin with.

What exactly is your client receiving? Please show the actual data.

Probably. TIdIRC was not parsing inbound commands correctly in older
versons of Indy 10. BCB 2007 shipped with an old version of Indy 10. It is
possible that it shipped with such a buggy version. You should upgrade
anyway. The version that shipped with BCB 2007 is seriously outdated in
general.

The last 3 PRIVMSG came from the channel and never triggered a
OnPrivateMessage event.
All this information is outputed with OnRaw event.

Did you receive OnNicknameChange, OnNotice, OnPingPong, OnServerWelcome,
OnJoin, and OnPart events ok?

The only way I can see that happening is if either you don't have an
OnPrivateMessage event handler assigned, or an exception occured before
TIdIRC could get far enough to trigger the event.
