SFTP

Hi,

I use BDS 2006, C++ Builder, and (hopefully) installed Indy 9
(although I keep seeing references to v10). I need to do SFTP, but can
only find references and examples for SSL FTP, and that that only
works with v10. However, I only need plain old fashioned SFTP. Is that
possible, and if so, how? If not, can anyone recommend a different package?

Thanks,

Mike

Do you need SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) or FTP-over-Something?

Well, SecureBlackbox ( http://www.eldos.com/sbb/ ) provides both. See http://www.eldos.com/sbb/delphi-sftp.php
for details about SFTP or http://www.eldos.com/sbb/delphi-ftps.php for FTPS
information.

SecureBlackbox contains it's own socket components and also supports both
SFTP and FTPS for Indy.

Wow, that was quick :)

I need to do some FTP-ing from my program and some clients cannot use normal
FTP, only SFTP. Seems to become quite common these days. I have been told it
is not SSL FTP, just plain SFTP. SSH and FTP-over-Something are terms I do
not understand. I need what most FTP programs also have, the choice to use
FTP or SFTP. Does that clarify it?

You can ask your clients, what SFTP tools they use. If then mention Putty or
OpenSSH, then it's definitely SFTP.

SFTP is part of SSH protocol family. SFTP is a binary protocol, which is not
compatible in any way with regular FTP.
You can use SFTPBlackbox and it's components for Indy to add SFTP
capabilities in the way, similar to IdFTP component, i.e. using similar
calls.

Well, this is all very confusing. I thought there was only one SFTP. So Indy
does not support SFTP? Considering how common this is, I find that rather
weird..

I looked into this Blackbox product but it does not support 2006 (yet?).
It's also quite expensive (same price as what I paid for the entire BDS
2006!).

Thanks,

Mike

It's very unlikely that it will ever do this...

Can you please tell me where you found this? 2006 is supported from the same
day 2006 was released.

SFTPBlackbox is available separately and it costs $199. Other products that
you can find will have comparable price.
