Using Indy components:
http://www.indyproject.org/Sockets/Download/index.en.iwp

IdIcmp->Host = IP_or_host_to_ping;
IdIcmp->Ping();

Hi Michael,

Thanks. But I am insterested in how programaticially ping an IP.
What type of info do I need to send out to a socket so I can receive a response from the IP device.

Thanks.

That is exactly what the TIdIcmpClient component of the Indy library does.

Pinging is a very low-level operation. It is not performed using a TCP or
UDP socket. It uses a RAW socket instead.
