Communicating with another computer via internet

I want to write some software that will allow an application on one
computer to communicate with a similar application on another
computer, via the internet. I want to be able to send instructions
and possibly upload and download files.
Is there any info on this, or any components that I could use?
I use C++ Builder 4.

Thanks,

David

Either use TClientSocket/TServerSocket or the Indy component set. You'll
probably find all the info you'll need if you Google search the cppbuilder
groups for this.

Thanks Jonathan,

Do you know how I determine the IP numbers for the communication,
and the server name. It's silly little things like that that I
find can be a problem. Using the components should be easy to
pick up.

Cheers,

David

AKAIK, there is no simple way. If the two computers use a dynamic IP system
like PPPoE or DHCP, then everytime they connect to the internet, is is very
likely that the IP will change. So, you'd either have to use a central
server that manages the remote computer IP addresses, or use dynamic domain
names.
