reading file name?

Hello,
I am new usint internet components.
I would my application reads a filename in a directory of a site and compare 
it with another in the hard disk.To know if it is a "new version"
I don't know what component to use to read the filename
and to donload it if it is ok.
I have looked at the borland examples, but there is many things and don't 
know what I must use.
I thank you in advance for help!
