Linking MSVC++ Library - Cannot Find OBJ
#80

I've converted a Microsoft .lib file from coff to omf using the coff2omf
utility. The invalid omf error goes away, but when it tries to link it
tells me it can't find the .obj file. There is no .obj file for the
library. Why does it need this and how can I fix it?

For example, my library is called OmegaCore.lib and of course has a
corresponginh OmegaCore.dll. So when BCB++ links my app, it says it can't
find OmegaCore.obj.

Thanks for any help,
Tom

If the library is a static library (contains actual executable code), rather
than being a DLL link library, then you cannot use it at all. Static
libraries are vendor-specific, and cannot be shared from one vendor to
another. If you have the source code for the .lib, then you can try
recompiling it with the compiler that you want to use the library in.
Otherwise, you will have to wrap the .lib into a DLL created with the same
compiler that compiled the .lib, and use the DLL instead.

I assume, then, that the .lib is just a link library for the DLL? If so,
then just run the DLL through Borland's IMPLIB command-line utility to
create a new .lib file and ignore the original altogether.
