You can record using TMediaPlayer and I have a working application at
http://jacobsm.com/mjsoft.htm#mjplyr which is a TMediaPlayer-based media
player. It can record using codecs on your PC, but the MP3 ones seem to cause
a problem when used to record. However, if you use the OGG codecs (
http://jacobsm.com/oggvorbisacm.zip ) you can record and I reckon the quality
is better for the same level of compression.

TMediaPlayer has a method StartRecording() which assumes you have set up a
file for recording by setting up the header prior to calling this method.
Whatever is in the file is appended to once recording starts. Calling
TMediaPlayer->Stop() followed by TMediaPlayer->Save() will then store the
sound into the file. Setting up the header part of this file is the tricky
bit, and I tend to use WAV headers as these are a bit easier to handle.
Consequently, MJPlayer recordings are all in WAV format but internally
compressed and decompressed using the codec you chose when you created the
file. I can record OGG files of radio shows which are 24 hours long and yet
take up only 150 MBytes.
