Capturing up to 64 cams simultaneously

Hi.

I have the need to capture up to 64 camera's simultaneously (at about 3 to 15 frames
p/sec). Because I'm rather new to video capturing I have no idea if this is doable, what
components/library to use, etc. So I'm seeking some pointers as to how to go about this.
The input streams come from video capture cards and possibly IP camera's. Mostly MPEG4
format. There is no need currently to broadcast the streams further (like in video
conferencing), but they need to be stored, and be searchable on time/date. Not sure if
that last part requires a database (are there any capable of handling that amount of data
in real-time?). Nor is there any need to filter/alter the streams in real-time.

I know this all sounds a bit vague at the moment, but a client of mine asked if I can
build such a system. Having googled the Net I found plenty of hits for video capturing,
but none of them actually specify their performance-related metrics. So I can't reliably
determine if some library/component is up to the task. Hope someone here can give me some
advise on this venture.

Tx.

I'd try VideoLab from www.mitov.com.

Do you have any experience with this library? Is it capable of handling that many streams
concurrently?
