We used to do something similar, but noticed that it really stuffed up  
some other apps, the one that we noticed it on was Mozilla. Basically, if  
it got a broadcast message that it didn't understand it went into 100% cpu  
cycles. This was some time ago, so it may be fixed, but we still try and  
stay clear of broadcast message as much as possible.
