Help with Menus

I have been testing the ability to disable menu items in other applications
and things make some sense but I need some help with the following;

When I use :

 EnableMenuItem( hmenu,
    GetMenuItemID(hmenu,1),
    MF_DISABLED
);

On some applications the menu item is actually disabled. This works on
Notepad, etc.

But when I try it on Acrobat the menu item is not disabled. I can add menu
items to the menu and once I add a menu item I can disable it. I can get
information on the menu item as well.

Can someone tell me why or what I have to do to get this to work.

Thanks for any help

Mike
